Prenatal Meetings

Your doula's role is to help you have a satisfying birth as YOU define it. The more you explore this together in advance, the better they will be able to fulfill this role.

 

Prenatal meetings are meetings with you and your partner/support person before baby arrives. Each client is unique and prenatal meetings will look slightly different for everyone according to their individual needs and which package is chosen. You and your doula will get to know one another and discuss many things including, but not limited to:​

• Your preferences for your birth 

• The scope of service for a doula

• How you can best work with your care provider and each other

• Any fears and or questions you may have about pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, parenting etc.

• Physiology of birth

• Relaxation/Breathing

• Breastfeeding (if applicable)

• Postpartum planning (if applicable)

• Sibling readiness (if applicable) 

• Creating a list of your birth wishes (aka birth plan)

• Pain management

• Labor and birth positions

• Spinning babies exercises

• Any thing you feel the need to discuss or explore to help you have a wonderful birth experience. 

Labor & Delivery Support

We ask that you contact your doula at the onset of labor and your doula will evaluate what is going on. 

• You and your doula will help you decide when it is best for them to come and meet you at home, or at the hospital.

• Your doula will provide continuous support for you and your partner/support person during labor and delivery. 

• In the case of an unexpected Cesarean birth, Your doula will support you however the hospital allows (ie in the operating room and/or afterward in your room) 

• After the baby is born, your doula will remain with you until breastfeeding is established and/or you are comfortable and settled, usually this is 1 to 2 hours.
